THS MG 1
In a Toyota hybrid system, Motor Generator 1 (MG1) is a key component of the Hybrid Synergy Drive system, primarily serving as a starter motor for the internal combustion engine (ICE) and as a generator to produce electricity. When the vehicle starts, MG1 spins the ICE to bring it to the necessary speed for ignition, eliminating the need for a traditional starter motor. Additionally, MG1 plays a crucial role in managing the power flow within the hybrid system by converting excess mechanical energy from the ICE into electrical energy, which is then stored in the hybrid battery pack. This stored energy can be used later to power the electric motor (MG2) or other electrical systems in the vehicle. MG1 also assists in controlling the engine speed, allowing for smooth and efficient transitions between the electric and petrol power modes. By optimising the use of available energy, MG1 contributes significantly to the overall fuel efficiency and performance of Toyota's hybrid vehicles.
